2009 Coach of the Year Cassandra Clay Remains Undefeated!

On Saturday, February 20, 2010, the first place 12 and under Lady Hawks, coached by Cassandra Clay, faced the second place East DeKalb Girls in a basketball game. The competition was fierce, but Coach Clay’s team led by 14 points at half time. Even though her team had a large lead over their opponents, she still continued to press her team and demand perfection.

Coach Clay is a native of Stone Mountain, Georgia. She attended Savannah State University and the University of Tennessee, where she earned a dual degree in Psychology and Communications. She also played college basketball and pledged Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Coach Clay is the wife of Perry Clay, and the mother of Jermaine Clay. She is the Athletic Coordinator for the Conyers location of Voices of Faith Ministries, and serves as a Deaconess. Along with coaching a recreation team, she also coaches AAU.

Coach Clay focuses on great defense and hustle and has an answer for every situation. This normally mild mannered individual is a force on the court. Cassandra practices tough love, but encourages hard work, teamwork, and discipline on and off of the court.

Her team started off rough, but ended up on top. Led by her speedy point guard, #23 Kayla Holmes, and followed by star players #32 Timberly Molden (forward), #24 Alayah Morris (center), and first time player #1 Kyaira Hillsman (forward), Coach Clay’s team won by 20 points and stayed undefeated on the season

Coach Clay is very passionate about her team and strives for success in basketball and in life.
